From SOMEONE who left Malaysia.....

Postby suhai on Tue Nov 03, 2009 11:37 pm

"".....while one may feel good doing some form of charity for altruistic
reasons, (whatchamacallit syndrome; and praying for divine
intervention),it is way beyond the comprehension of most people of the
'real' situation of what's happening in beloved Malaysia(for some of
you);and whatever little i can afford to contribute will be but a drop
in the ocean......

i still have some sentimental feelings for the place where my father
migrated to and where my mother and I were born..........fond memories
of innocent childhood and carefree days at SJS and genuine friendships
spawned over my formative years....all history now;

what most people fail to realise is that the Malaysia today is vastly
different, esp politically, from the Malaysia we knew before 1969.
consider the racist UMNO, hijacked by extremists, leading a vastly
different coalition for the last 40 years......hidden agenda of
Ketuanan Melayu and discrimination and helpless 'leaders', unable
and/or unwilling to even accept that justice and fairplay must be the
pivotal foundation of any decent government.............and more than
willing to trample on the basic rights of the citizenry( and needless
to say , the poor natives and pendatangs)

so,much like the Jews who fled Nazi Germany,or the Chinese of
pre-Communist China who fled the Communist
(like my father),more than a million 'Msian' Chinese have fled the
UMNOputras and in the process, made racist by the
racists...............
and until the 'new order' is in place in malaysia, i reserve the right
to withdraw from the disgusting environment 'created' by
UMNO......hopefully i will still be alive to one day again be in my
country of birth where the people are free of the tyranny of UMNO....
in the meantime,i'm enjoying a new-found freedom in ,while not perfect
but quite near ,a civil society with laws that apply to every one and
a government that respects human rights........

ah well, tomorrow's another in paradise

cheers and God Bless.....makes me feel so good.......""

anti-local =/= backward mentality.

Let me flip it around. Rephrased it says the ability to look at an issue with an international perspective and a free mindset. In fact, being overzealous for your country(or for the government for this phase that Malaysia is going through) is backward thinking, wanting to convert a tropical country into a 7th century desert country is in fact backward thinking and being 'led by a ring in the nose in their own religion' (quoted from another awesome article) is all and all backward thinking. In fact, Malaysia's foreign investment is currently quite around the level of a sh*t house and the government wanting to stomp the pavement about no such thing as '2nd classed citizens' is just showing how far we had fallen.

We are taught to love our nation, but never our government. However that's not what we see today. Our government doesn't love our country, our officials don't love us, they love the jiggling of money in their pockets, that's for sure.

Your attempt at passive aggressive sarcasm failed I'm afraid.

ahahaha! So true!

I was actually supporting your statement and wasn't trying to be sarcastic. I guess I shouldn't have put my two sentences together.
What I meant to say was I see your point and I'm with you.
And because of the political performances over the years, it shows how backwards SEAs are, in general. Or maybe I shouldn't have generalized?

I like my country, but because of how things are with the government these days, I'm not sure I'm as proud a citizen as I was way back then (not saying the past was super developed either, but I'm pretty sure you get the picture).
